Why

Self hosting is the yet another motivation, I could reason in the era of Fake News, Big Tech, LLM AND AI, to develop any web . First one was, more than a decade ago, when I was in college and found part time gigs unreasonable for the knowledge worker.

What

From top of my head, I am starting with self hosting this blog,Next-cloud, FreshRSS, a git service, a Head-scale coordination/ derp server and exit node instances on a Leapcell server-less cloud free tier . While they re doable with a VM and hence I can configure them as NixOs modules, I Opt for the latter and ll end up running them on VPS.

Everyday life Use case

FreshRSS utilizes the Fever API as a protocol and elfeed protocol can call it to sync rss feed, on the elfeed mobile client. Earlier , I tried that with devsync and ( non self hosted) Nextcloud earlier and it didn't feature nextcloud news. See, the choices I don't have without self hosting :).
